Jug Handle State Natural Reserve
Situated on the coast, this state park features a 2½-mile self-guided nature trail called the Ecological Staircase. Beginning by the ocean, the trail winds inland, ascending a series of five ancient terraces carved by millions of years of pounding surf, grinding glaciers, and tectonic activity. It is also home to one of the more beautiful and less-crowded beaches in Mendocino.
